REGULAR MEETING OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TAMPICO

Mayor Bruce Peltier called the Regular Meeting of the Tampico Village Council to order at 7:00 PM.
Village Clerk Jamie McIntire was present and recorded the written and audio minutes.
Mayor Peltier led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes of the June 16, 2026 Regular Meeting were approved as presented.
REPORTS OF VILLAGE OFFICIALS
Mayor Peltier advised that Superintendent Chriest told him they have been doing a lot of mowing and stained the gazebo at Lions Club Park to get everything looking nice before Tampico Days. Chriest has everything arranged with Prophetstown to obtain barricades for that weekend. Prophetstown will also bring its street sweeper to Tampico.
Mayor Peltier reported that he spoke with Dan Smith about the property Smith owns next to the proposed location of the new water treatment plant. Smith is open to selling his entire property if that is what the Village needs. Smith will provide a purchase amount for the property.
Mayor Peltier said he needs to speak with Matt Hansen. The Village would like to leave the building currently on the property and place it farther toward the back so it can be used for storage. If that is not possible, the Village may move the building to another location for use.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
There was no unfinished business at this time.
NEW BUSINESS
A motion was made by Commissioner J. Coleman, seconded by Commissioner Kendell, to approve Resolution No. R01-26-07-07, Confidentiality of Closed Meeting Minutes from January 1, 2026, through June 30, 2026.
“Yes” votes were S. Coleman, Dean, J. Coleman, Kendell, and Mayor Peltier. The motion carried to keep the March 3, 2026 Closed Meeting Minutes confidential.
The Mayor and Council discussed Ordinance No. O01-26-07-07, an Ordinance Directing the Sale of Real Estate Owned by the Village of Tampico.
Mayor Peltier said the ordinance concerns the property the Village has been discussing near the trailers.
Clerk McIntire advised that once the ordinance is approved, the notice of sale will be published in the Sauk Valley Newspaper once a week for three consecutive weeks, with the first publication no later than July 21.
A motion to approve Ordinance No. O01-26-07-07 was made by Commissioner S. Coleman and seconded by Commissioner Dean.
“Yes” votes were S. Coleman, Dean, J. Coleman, Kendell, and Mayor Peltier. The motion carried.
BUILDING PERMITS
Building permits approved by Zoning Administrator Tyler Chriest were:
- 216 S. Benton St. – Windows/Door/Roofing
- 312 E. Booth St. – Replace Deck Boards
- 308 W. Kimball St. – Roofing
COMMUNICATIONS
Clerk McIntire advised that Rock River Energy will send new electric municipal program mailers to community residents and small business owners on July 17.
The mailers will inform residents of the new rate of 9.99 cents per kWh, beginning in September 2026 for a 24-month period ending in September 2028 with MC Squared.
The opt-out period ends August 7. There are four different mailings with instructions explaining how residents may opt out. The mailings also include directions explaining how a resident may opt in if the resident opted out in the past.
The mailings clearly state that nothing will change with a resident’s account unless the resident chooses to make a change.
Clerk McIntire also reported that the audit is complete.
Bills were ordered paid on a motion by Commissioner Kendell, seconded by Commissioner J. Coleman.
“Yes” votes were S. Coleman, Dean, J. Coleman, Kendell, and Mayor Peltier. The motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 7:08 PM.
The next Regular Meeting of the Tampico Village Council is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 7:00 PM in the Reagan Community Center located at 202 W. Second Street.
